Child Arise

Good morning from the Midwest of the USA! … I don’t even think this qualifies as morning yet… Anyway, after a good night sleep (ahem; cat nap) we are back on the grind. Here is day three of this A-Z Challenge for you.

There is another challenge inherent to this post along with the A-Z Challenge. A challenge I got from Baffled Mum where you write a piece of work about the picture below. Here are the rules for this challenge:

  • 150 word limit
  • Write a piece of historical fiction or poetry about the photo
  • Try not to use the words tree & green
  • Tag 3 people to do the same with the photo

“Child Arise”

“My child, arise!”
But Father, I am weak, unwise;
I am pushing through concrete, to my surprise,
And there’s a roof overhead, do you realize?!

“My child, stand tall!”
Father, I am pushing through ceiling and wall,
I can barely see your light at all,
What if my roots fail and I fall?

“My child, be still, I will make you grow!”
I’m full of fears and tears; this roof hurts, it’s so slow!
Wait! Did I feel the breeze – a soft blow?
And what is that warmth? The sun’s glow?!

“My child, in whom I love and given my Dove, arise!”
In soil and concrete, rooted are my feet; spreading out – see my size;
Growing remains hard, but my heart I guard, as I’m your prize,
Faithful through each stumble, you make me humble and wise!

“My child, you are mine! Be still, stand tall; arise!”

I wrote this with several Scriptures (ESV*) in mind:

Psalm 1.3

He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.

Psalm 92.12-15

The righteous flourish like the palm tree and grow like a cedar in Lebanon. They are planted in the house of the Lord; they flourish in the courts of our God. They still bear fruit in old age; they are ever full of sap and green, to declare that the Lord is upright; he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.

2 Corinthians 4.7-9

But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us. We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed;

John 16.33

I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.

Hope you enjoyed. If you like the challenge, do it! Blessings.

P.S. – Little Rants, since you tagged me in the A-Z Challenge, I tag you to add this challenge.

  2. […] I must endure. Maybe I am pushing through my roof and I should take my own advice from my previous post. God, I know you are with me, but are you with me?! Despondent; this is my word of the day. It was […]
