GKC: On Reading — Following A Star

THE highest use of the great masters of literature is not literary; it is apart from their superb style and even from their emotional inspiration. The first use of good literature is that it prevents a man from being merely modern. To be merely modern is to condemn oneself to an ultimate narrowness; just as […]

What a Reading List!

Douglass Wilson, Christian apologist, author, speaker, educator, podcaster, pastor, etc., is certainly been known to stir the pot from time to time. He is not always appreciated for his perspectives, to say the least.

However, he has had a positive impact on my thinking in certain areas and there have been many things that he has taught that have surely been a blessing to me and helped me along the way.

One area he focuses on that I really appreciate is on good, solid education – both for oneself and as a parent teaching their children. He puts a lot of emphasis on reading, learning and growing. As such, I knew he was an avid reader, but I just recently ran across his reading list and, wowsers!

Not only is is quite extensive, which I expected, what really messed me up is how thoroughly documented it is! It is just shy of 3,000 titles and spans 41 years!

Feel free to check it out here: https://dougwils.com/book-log#t2020

I have some work to do!

Hope your reading is going well!

Currently Reading | 28 September 2021

Hello everyone.

I hope this post finds you well! I wanted to take a moment just to share what I’m currently reading. I know many of my posts have been showing quotes from these books anyway, but I thought I would put them all in one place.

Feel free to drop some comments!

Have you read any of these titles?

What are you currently reading?

ESV Bible – just started a Chronological plan, so reading through Genesis and Job.

This last book has been really fun and I am enjoying it. I simply single this one out as a shout out to Ritu, who has been a great encouragement to this blog and to many others. Ritu, good job on this work. I still have to get the novel, but I am working toward that. Thanks for your work and for all your support. Blessings! P.S., I see where you got the name for your blog! Check her out here.

Scripture Milestone

During Sukkot of 2020, I started a Bible Reading Plan to read the Bible through before Sukkot of this year. I actually wanted to finish it earlier in the year, but today, while meandering around our Sukkah in the early morning rays of the September sun, with heavy dew and crisp air enveloping me, I read Psalm 149-150, Malachi 3-4, 2 Chronicles 36, and Revelation 22, thus completing the plan! It’s been a great journey and completing this task brings sweet joy.

I chose to use the Olive Tree App to track the readings and I chose the “Kingdom Bible Reading Plan”. This was a good way to track the progress and I really enjoyed that plan. It had nice customizable features and they did a good job stringing the texts together. It has my recommendation!

Now, off to the next plan!

How’s your reading coming along on this Sunday?

Have a wonderful day!

Pile of Assorted Novel Books

I have not read anything in a while! Oh, how I have missed books …

In January I began to really start working on writing and started building my blog page. Since then, I have met so many great writers on here! Your interactions have been a true blessing to me. Also, it gave me a different venue for reading and has refocused my need to consistently read. So, to you dear readers (writers!), thank you!

Two books that I am currently reading that are splittin’ my wig!

  • That Incredible Christian, by A. W. Tozer
    • This has just short essays that are oozing and overflowing with meaning.

  • The Great Divorce, by C.S. Lewis
    • My favorite author and this one is most intriguing! It’s a fictional story of a bus taking a trip from Hell to Heaven and the riders experiences. Very thought provoking indeed!

Hope your reading is going well too! Here are a few children books I have read to the kids recently that we have really enjoyed too!
